Training Soccer Players for Success
FC Colibri
ABOUT ME AND MY TEAMS
My name is Jose Ramos. I've been playing soccer my entire life and coaching soccer for nearly 20 years. I grew up in Mexico where soccer is a way of life, and every day I carry that passion into my coaching.
Currently, I am the head coach for a girls U13 team and previously a boys U16/U17 elite-level team. I also do private trainings and work with very young children in an effort to seek out talent at a very young age. I hold a United Soccer Coaches National Diploma.
My local coaching career began in 2003 when I started FC Colibri to give back to the Tacoma Hispanic community through soccer. Over the years FC Colibri teams of all ages have competed at a very high level and won many state championships and tournaments.
In 2019 the FC Colibri B05 team took home the U14 Division 1 WA State Presidents Cup championship and advanced to the USYS Far West Presidents Cup in Norco, CA. From 2017 to 2021 I coached the Sparta Tacoma 2004, 2005 and 2006 teams and during that time won a combined total of 4 WA Cup championships.

MY PHILOSOPHY
My philosophy is simple. Your technical skills can always be improved, but the love of the sport should come from your heart. There's nothing more rewarding than coaching a child that truly loves the sport and wants to improve. By coaching multiple ages at different skill levels I'm able to assess a player's current skill level and develop them so they can advance to the next level team, academy, college team and beyond.
Many American youth players develop bad habits at very young ages while playing on a rec team for a coach who may know very little about soccer. Even 2 or 3-year-olds can show early signs of natural talent, and it's important to provide those children with a good soccer foundation. That's why I offer very early assessments and introduction to soccer for 2 to 4 year-olds.

Tryouts and training. Many clubs hold annual tryouts, however, I don't believe that is the best approach. It's better for a player to spend a little time training with a team and a coach. This allows the coach to see a player’s skill level and areas for improvement more clearly, and players and families can determine if the team is a good fit.
If your child is interested in trying out for one of my teams or doing a private training, please call me at 253-226-8531 or visit the tryout page to learn more.
